Basketball Recap: Mentor Comes Up Short

Mentor lost against Strongsville back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Mentor Cardinals lost 78-56 to the Strongsville Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Mustangs are ranked fifth).

Despite the loss, Mentor still got an impressive performance from Nina Rodriguez, who went 9 of 17 on her way to 22 points along with eight boards and three steals. The game was Rodriguez's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Ferritto, who posted eight points.

With the loss, Mentor broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-4. As for Strongsville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-1.

Mentor will face off against Brunswick at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mentor is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.4 points per game this season. As for Strongsville, they will challenge Olmsted Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
