Softball Recap: Gainesville Comes Up Short

Gainesville saw some tournament action on Saturday. They lost 15-6 to the Crowley Eagles. The loss was the Leopards' first of the season.

Gainesville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breanna Barrientos, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Barrientos is also crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stolen at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Addisyn Putnam was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Gainesville hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in four consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Gainesville fell to 2-1. As for Crowley, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Gainesville has already played their next game, a 20-8 defeat against Bridgeport on the 17th. As for Crowley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, an 18-4 loss against Krum on the 15th.
