Basketball Recap: The Vanguard School Beats Colorado Springs Christian for Their Fourth Straight Victory

The Vanguard School waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Colorado Springs Christian Lions 89-63. The Coursers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.

The Vanguard School's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Wetters, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 11 assists. Wetters is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 16 games he's played. Lorenzo Bustamante was another key player, putting up 25 points and three steals.

Wetters wasn't the only one working in the assist department: The Vanguard School was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 20 assists in four consecutive contests.

When it comes to explaining why Colorado Springs Christian lost, don't look at Maximiliano Cota-Cordova. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists. Those seven assists gave Cota-Cordova a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Salsbery, who went 5-for-12 to rack up 10 points along with five boards and three blocks.

The Vanguard School's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 89.0 points over those games. As for Colorado Springs Christian, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

The Vanguard School wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 63-58 win against Salida on the 20th. As for Colorado Springs Christian, they have also already played their next game, a 67-49 victory against Banning Lewis Academy on the 21st.
