With a playoff game on the line, Churchill County rose to the challenge on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 24-21 win over the Elko Indians. Winning may never get old, but the Greenwave sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

A big part of Churchill County's victory came down to the chemistry between Matthew Bird and his top target Calin Anderson. Bird threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns on only nine passes while Anderson picked up 127 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the loss, Elko still got an impressive performance from Ethan Kraintz, who threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 60 yards. Coy Jones was Kraintz's top target, picking up 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Churchill County has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Elko, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.

Churchill County will venture away from home to take on Sports Leadership & Management at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sports Leadership & Management knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Churchill County likes a good challenge. Elko does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
