Bishop McNamara hasn't had much luck against St. John recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Mustangs will face off against the Cadets at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Bishop McNamara comes in on three and St. John's on ten.
Bishop McNamara had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Archbishop Carroll on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Lions 16-1. With that win, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Tyrone Leach made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He is becoming a predictor of Bishop McNamara's success: when he allows at most two hits the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Leach was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Tre Shepard was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. Bishop McNamara is 2-1 when Shepard posts two or more runs, but 4-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Justin Dorsey, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Bishop McNamara hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Archbishop Carroll struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, St. John's is ranked highly in their home state and on Wednesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Gainesville. The Cadets narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Cardinals 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cadets have posted since May 4, 2024.
St. John's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Bishop McNamara, their record now sits at 6-11.
Bishop McNamara might still be hurting after the 15-2 loss they got from St. John's when the teams last played back in March. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
