Basketball Recap: Mandarin Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Mandarin was the 70-67 winner over Matanzas when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Mandarin Mustangs took a 67-49 bruising from the Matanzas Pirates on Thursday.

Matanzas got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nathaniel Perry out in front who shot 4-for-4 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Perry a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Alexander Davis, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 24 rebounds.

Mandarin's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-6. As for Matanzas, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 13-8.

Both are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Mandarin will square off against Fletcher on Wednesday. As for Matanzas, they will take on Bartram Trail at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Matanzas is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.
