Baseball Game Preview: Sweetwater Wildcats vs. Anderson County Mavericks

The Sweetwater Wildcats will take on the Anderson County Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, Sweetwater made easy work of Tellico Plains and carried off a 12-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Bears: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Anderson County never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-0 margin over Cumberland Gap. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mavericks.

The team relied heavily on Nolan Benson, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Trent Strickland was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Sweetwater's win bumped their record up to 16-6. As for Anderson County, their victory bumped their record up to 19-7.

Sweetwater skirted past Anderson County 7-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2022. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Mavericks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
