Recap: Bartow Yellow Jackets vs. Santa Fe Catholic Hawks
After flying high against the Lake Region Thunder on Tuesday, the Bartow Yellow Jackets came back down to earth. Bartow received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 61-46 to Santa Fe Catholic. While losing is never fun, Bartow can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while Santa Fe Catholic is ranked 18th).
Several Yellow Jackets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Antwan Willis, who scored 11 points along with 6 assists and 3 steals. Another player making a difference was Edward Wiggins, who scored 6 points along with 8 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Bartow were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Fe Catholic only pulled down four.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Santa Fe Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Toby Lane, who scored 16 points along with 5 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Tate Darner, who scored 17 points.
Bartow's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Santa Fe Catholic, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bartow will challenge Ridge Community at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Santa Fe Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Sports Leadership & Management at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Sports Leadership & Management focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Saturday.
