Basketball Recap: Peyton Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Peyton was riding high fresh off their 52-13 takedown of The Colorado Springs School last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Peyton Panthers fell to the North Fork Miners 49-43. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Miners 13-0 in the first quarter.

Peyton's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from ArRhiya Brown and Maysn Gregg. Brown dropped a double-double with ten points and 16 rebounds, while Gregg posted 12 points along with six steals and five boards. Brown has become a key player for Peyton: the team is 6-3 when she posts at least ten rebounds, but 5-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Mckinley Nickell, who had seven points.

North Fork found their leader in sophomore Alyssa Lovelace, who shot 70% from the field on her way to 15 points and six boards. The dominant performance gave Lovelace a new career-high in shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Meri Hollembeak, who earned ten points in addition to eight rebounds and seven assists.

Peyton's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-10. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 16.4 points on average over those games. As for North Fork, they pushed their record up to 11-10 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

When Peyton and North Fork next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Peyton will try to stop Cedaredge's 22-game winning streak when they meet at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, North Fork will face off against Calhan and their six-game winning streak at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
