Recap: Jackson Red Devils vs. Mary Persons Bulldogs
The Jackson Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 51-37 bruising from Mary Persons. While losing is never fun, Jackson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 385th, while Mary Persons is ranked 124th).
Despite the defeat, Jackson saw an underclassman step up: Sophie Logan dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Logan has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariyah Burke, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Mary Persons' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Zaria Wilson led the charge by scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Zoey Shannon, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Jackson dropped their record down to 4-14 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Mary Persons, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jackson and Pike County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Pike County is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak. As for Mary Persons, they will be playing at home against Peach County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Peach County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches.
