Baseball Game Preview: Brenham Cubs vs. Somerville Yeguas

The Brenham Cubs will square off against the Somerville Yeguas at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Brenham took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past United South 8-1. That looming 8-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cubs yet this season.

Meanwhile, Somerville came into Friday's matchup having lost 11 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against BVCHEA HomeSchool on Friday as Somerville made off with a 13-3 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Yeguas have posted since April 5, 2024.

Kyle 'KB' Brooks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Brooks was even better at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (four).

In other batting news, Gage Tuck and Jayden Young did most of the damage at the plate: Tuck scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Young scored three runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Reggie Shivers, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Somerville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as BVCHEA HomeSchool only posted an OBP of .400.

Brenham's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Somerville, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
