Recap: Green River Pirates vs. Caprock Academy Eagles

The Green River Pirates won the last time they faced the Caprock Academy Eagles, and things went their way on Thursday too. Green River walked away with a 55-45 victory over Caprock Academy. Given Green River's advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 112th in Utah, while Caprock Academy is ranked 298th in Colorado), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Green River's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luis Hernandez, who scored 21 points. Hernandez hasn't dropped below 15 points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Rolando Anguiano, who scored 15 points.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zach Jordan, who scored nine points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Tristin Bird, who scored ten points along with two steals.

Green River is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for Caprock Academy, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-13.

Green River won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Pinnacle at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Pinnacle focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 last Tuesday. As for Caprock Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rangely at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Caprock Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
