Football Recap: Safford Bulldogs vs. Florence Gophers
Safford lost against Florence back in September of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Safford Bulldogs lost 34-13 to the Florence Gophers.
Although Safford took the loss, they still got scores from Jarett Jurado and Collin Gunnett.
Logan Stenson had a dynamite game for Florence, rushing for 118 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, while also throwing for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Stenson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Wyatt Stenson was Logan's top target, picking up 82 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Safford now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Florence, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Safford will host Rincon/University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Safford focused on turnovers this week as team gave up five on Friday. As for Florence, they will challenge San Tan Foothills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Florence will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak dating back to last season alive.
