Basketball Recap: Northampton County Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Northampton County lost against Roanoke Rapids last Thursday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Northampton County Jaguars took a 44-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roanoke Rapids Yellowjackets.

Northampton County's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Kaiyah Cherry, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 14 points, and Toccara Joyner, who posted six points. That was a full 45.2% of Northampton County's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.

It was another big night for Shaniah Daniels, who almost dropped a triple-double on 23 points, 13 rebounds, and nine steals for Roanoke Rapids. That's the most points Daniels has posted since back in January. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofie Wade, who had eight points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

Northampton County's loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-5. As for Roanoke Rapids, their victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northampton County and Bertie will compete for holiday cheer at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Roanoke Rapids will take on Southern Nash in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Roanoke Rapids' defense has only allowed 29.6 points per game this season, so Southern Nash's offense will have their work cut out for them.
