Recap: Bear Grass Charter Bears vs. Northside - Pinetown Panthers
The Bear Grass Charter Bears waltzed into their contest Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They had just enough and edged Northside - Pinetown out 49-47. The win was all the more spectacular given Bear Grass Charter's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 458th, while Northside - Pinetown is ranked 222nd).
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Griffin Johnson, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds. Johnson scored a full 25.5% of Northside - Pinetown's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Zi'mier Alexander, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.
Bear Grass Charter is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Northside - Pinetown, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 11-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bear Grass Charter will take on Bethel Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bethel Christian Academy is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for Northside - Pinetown, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against East Carteret at 7:30 p.m.
