Basketball Recap: Meleah Bell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hilltop Christian over Wilmington Christian Academy

Hilltop Christian lost against Wilmington Christian Academy back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Hilltop Christian Chargers fell 32-21 to the Wilmington Christian Academy Patriots. The Chargers just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Hilltop Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meleah Bell, who posted six points along with 13 rebounds and three steals. Bell has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played.

Katelyn McCurry was the offensive standout of the game as she went 7 for 11 en route to 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ava Gray, who scored five points along with 14 rebounds and three steals.

Hilltop Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for Wilmington Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Hilltop Christian will take on Faith Christian Academy at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hilltop Christian is facing Faith Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Faith Christian Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Wilmington Christian Academy, they will challenge Liberty Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Liberty Christian Academy: they have been struggling with eight straight losses at home, while Wilmington Christian Academy has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.
