Baseball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Evergreen

Evergreen hadn't done well against Highline recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Evergreen Wolverines' pitcher stepped up to hand the Highline Pirates a 10-0 shutout. The Wolverines not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15, 2024.

Raiden Hang was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

In other batting news, Kevin Martinez was a standout: he scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 4-for-5. Another player making a difference was Wilder Amechazurra, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.

Evergreen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highline only posted an OBP of .143.

The win made it two in a row for Evergreen and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Highline, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Evergreen will be playing in front of their home fans against La Conner at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Highline, they will venture away from home to square off against Chief Sealth at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
