Grays Creek moved up to 40 from 101 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Cape Fear Valley. The Bears climbed the ranks as a result of a 42-14 win over Union Pines.
Grays Creek extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Vikings, 42-14. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Joe Wallace and Ken McDowell gave the Bears a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Wallace threw for 31 yards and one touchdown, while McDowell ran for 276 yards. Teammate Justis Richardson added to the ground attack by rushing for 83 yards.
Keatre Evans was the best wideout in the league this week as Westover fell to Hoke County. Evans racked up three receptions for 23 yards. Semaj Street helped Westover's passing attack out by catching three balls for 23 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Henry Howard III of the Wolverines is the league leader in passing yards this season with 673. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, Grays Creek's McDowell has rushed for 1463 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Alonzo Hurtado. The Douglas Byrd star has nine catches for 211 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Bears take on Southern Lee. Grays Creek's offense has recorded 266 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Cavaliers have permitted only 211 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Westover takes on Douglas Byrd. Greg Bryant's team is in third place, while the Eagles are in second place.
Douglas Byrd and Overhills played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Douglas Byrd eventually emerging with a 21-18 victory.
