Softball Preview: West Cabarrus Wolverines vs. Lake Norman Wildcats

West Cabarrus is 0-5 against Lake Norman since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The West Cabarrus Wolverines will head out on the road to challenge the Lake Norman Wildcats at 6:00 p.m.

Sadly, West Cabarrus is still looking for their first win of the season after ten matches. They suffered a rough 15-5 loss at the hands of Cox Mill on Tuesday. The final score was a far cry from the score of their previous head-to-head, which saw the teams combine for four runs.

Aaliyah Gray made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

Meanwhile, Lake Norman entered their tilt with A.L. Brown with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They beat the Wonders in Monday's second game by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 9-6.

Lake Norman also got a great performance from Charlee Kelly as she struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Kelly has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances.

On the hitting side, Kali Panaccione and Olivia Wolf did most of the damage at the plate: Panaccione went 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a run, while Wolf scored three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Kaylee Harris was another key contributor, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and a double.

West Cabarrus' defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Lake Norman, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5.
