Basketball Game Preview: Maxwell Vo-Tech Bears vs. Classics

Maxwell Vo-Tech is 2-8 against Classics since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Maxwell Vo-Tech will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Teachers Prep, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Maxwell Vo-Tech narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Teachers Prep 64-62. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Classics beat Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance 62-57 last Thursday. Given Classics' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 372nd, while Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance is ranked 759th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Classics pushed their record up to 8-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for Maxwell Vo-Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Maxwell Vo-Tech ended up a good deal behind Classics when the teams last played back in December of 2024, losing 66-49. Can Maxwell Vo-Tech avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
