Baseball Recap: Mercer Comes Up Short

If Mercer was feeling good fresh off their 11-1 takedown of Iroquois last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wilmington Greyhounds on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Mustangs of the 9-8 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Mercer saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kameron Woods, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.

Mercer has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Wilmington, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-5 record.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Mercer will square off against rival Sharpsville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Wilmington is set to challenge their familiar foe Reynolds at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
