Recap: Arcadia Firebirds vs. Broadwater Academy Vikings
The Arcadia Firebirds fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Broadwater Academy Vikings on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 36-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vikings. Arcadia found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 18 to 11 on offense.
Arcadia's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Uriah Hope, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds. Amani Hope was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 7 steals and 5 rebounds.
Leah Smith was the offensive standout of the match as she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Broadwater Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Carly Clayton, who scored 1 points along with 4 steals.
Arcadia's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Broadwater Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Arcadia will take on Worcester Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Broadwater Academy, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hampton Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
