Baseball Recap: Jurupa Hills Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Jurupa Hills had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They never let the Whittier Christian Heralds get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Spartans, who have now won five matches in a row.

Alejandro Preciado made a big impact no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aaden Lopez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Jurupa Hills pushed their record up to 22-5 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Whittier Christian, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-13.

Looking ahead, Jurupa Hills will challenge St. Anthony at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. Whittier Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
