Alhambra is 8-2 against Northgate since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bulldogs will host the Broncos at 4:30 p.m.
Alhambra is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against College Park on Tuesday. They came up short against the Falcons, falling 12-2. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Alhambra saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Juliana Carranza, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Northgate and Benicia meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Broncos walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Panthers.
Mackenzie Hudson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Taelyn Jriyasetapong was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella Hanko, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Northgate was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Northgate's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 7-9. As for Alhambra, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-8.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alhambra hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Northgate struggles in that department as they've averaged .327. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alhambra beat Northgate 3-0 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Broncos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
