Football Recap: Mountain Valley Comes Up Short

Mountain Valley played a tough contest on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 78-19 loss at the hands of the Branson/Kim Bearcats. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 62-19.

When it comes to explaining why Mountain Valley lost, don't look at Tanner Shellabarger. Despite the final result, he rushed for 123 yards and one TD on only 12 carries. Shellabarger got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 66 yards.

Will Doherty was his usual excellent self, rushing for 130 yards and three scores on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 28 yards and one touchdown for Branson/Kim. Those 130 rushing yards gave Doherty a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cooper Winter, who threw for 75 yards and three TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes.

Mountain Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Branson/Kim, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Mountain Valley will take on rival Cotopaxi at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Branson/Kim is set to challenge their familiar foe Primero at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
