Basketball Recap: Hammond's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Hammond won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Saturday. They lost 77-56 to the Ponchatoula Green Wave. The Tornadoes haven't had much luck with the Green Wave recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Hammond lost, don't look at Joseph Carbo. Despite the final result, he went 8 of 13 on his way to 22 points and five rebounds. Those 22 points gave Carbo a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Harland, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds.

Hammond's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. As for Ponchatoula, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season.

Hammond and Salmen will round out the year against one another at at 2:00 p.m. on December 30th. As for Ponchatoula, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Dutchtown at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Ponchatoula knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Dutchtown likes a good challenge.
