Football Recap: Sabino Takes a Loss + How To Watch

After flying high against San Tan Foothills last Thursday, Sabino came back down to earth. The Sabercats were beaten by the Sahuaro Cougars 44-6 on Friday. The Sabercats were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the three games prior), but the Cougars' defense proved too tough.

Despite the loss, Sabino still got an impressive performance from Zachari Haley, who rushed for 97 yards, and also caught one TD.

Sahuaro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lekie Sika led the charge by rushing for 81 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Another player making a difference was Anakin Alexander, who rushed for 49 yards and a pair of scores.

With the defeat, Sabino broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 3-3. As for Sahuaro, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Sabino will welcome Pusch Ridge Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sabercats' defense better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 33.7 points per game this season. As for Sahuaro, they will head out to challenge Walden Grove at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The contest will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
