Softball Game Preview: Homewood-Flossmoor Vikings vs. Lockport Porters

Homewood-Flossmoor hasn't had much luck against Lockport recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Vikings will face off against the Porters at 4:30 p.m.

Homewood-Flossmoor is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Monday. They came up short against Bradley-Bourbonnais, falling 12-2.

Taylor Purchas was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Lockport waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Thunderbolts. That's two games straight that the Porters have won by exactly two runs.

Rheanna Slavicek and Liliana Janeczko did most of the damage at the plate: Slavicek went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one run, while Janeczko got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Slavicek has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Way, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.

Lockport pushed their record up to 13-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Homewood-Flossmoor, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Homewood-Flossmoor suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Lockport in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
