Baseball Game Preview: Cape Fear Colts vs. Douglas Byrd Eagles

Cape Fear is a perfect 10-0 against Douglas Byrd since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Cape Fear Colts will venture away from home to take on the Douglas Byrd Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Cape Fear's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Douglas Byrd's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Cape Fear will head out to face Douglas Byrd after giving up their first home loss of the season on Wednesday. Cape Fear fell just short of Triton by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Colts couldn't push the score so high this time.

Logan Rayburn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Cape Fear saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brycen Talley, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Douglas Byrd was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 26th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Purnell Swett, falling 27-0.

Douglas Byrd's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Cape Fear, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 4-4.

Everything went Cape Fear's way against Douglas Byrd in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Cape Fear made off with a 29-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cape Fear since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
