Independence won the last time they faced Foothill and things went their way on Saturday too. The Independence Falcons blew past the Foothill Trojans 9-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Jace Gillenwater and David Baralt Portillo were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Gillenwater tossed 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Meanwhile, Baralt Portillo pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Gillenwater scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Baralt Portillo scored a run while going 1-for-2.

In other pitching news, Mateo Romo looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Back at the plate, Aldo Salcedo was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Foothill only posted an OBP of .387.

Independence's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Foothill, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
