Recap: Cupertino Pioneers vs. Piedmont Hills Pirates
The Cupertino Pioneers scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They claimed a resounding 74-44 win over Piedmont Hills on the road. Given Cupertino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 152nd, while Piedmont Hills is ranked 845th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Justin Yu was his usual excellent self, scoring 23 points along with five assists. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Soham Nighojkar, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds.
Cupertino pushed their record up to 11-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points per game. As for Piedmont Hills, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.
Cupertino will be playing in front of their home fans against Homestead at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Homestead and Cupertino are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. Piedmont Hills will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westmont at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th.
