Basketball Recap: Berkeley Prep Buccaneers vs. Wesley Chapel Wildcats

After a string of three wins, the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They took a 55-38 bruising from Wesley Chapel. While losing is never fun, Berkeley Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 389th, while the Wildcats are ranked 136th).

When it comes to explaining why Berkeley Prep lost, one person who can't be blamed is Maddie Dean. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Stowell, who scored five points along with six rebounds.

Wesley Chapel found their leader in underclassman Sanai Forrester-Jhagroo, who scored 20 points along with four steals. Dayla Christopher was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.

Berkeley Prep's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-11. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Wesley Chapel, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Berkeley Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. As for Wesley Chapel, they will take on the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Pasco has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 21.
