Baseball Game Preview: LaVergne Wolverines vs. Stewarts Creek Red Hawks

LaVergne is 0-10 against Stewarts Creek since March of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Wolverines are taking a road trip to challenge the Red Hawks at 6:00 p.m. LaVergne has given up an average of 9.1 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

LaVergne is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They lost 11-0 to Cookeville.

Meanwhile, Stewarts Creek didn't have quite enough to beat Oakland on Monday and fell 2-1. That's two games in a row now that the Red Hawks have lost by just one run.

Caleb Lawson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

This is the second loss in a row for Stewarts Creek and nudges their season record down to 13-10. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for LaVergne, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. LaVergne has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Stewarts Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

LaVergne might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Stewarts Creek in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
