Basketball Recap: Hoquiam Comes Up Short

Hoquiam lost against Elma back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Hoquiam Grizzlies fell 66-54 to the Elma Eagles.

Leading Elma to victory were Isaac McGaffey and Traden Carter. McGaffey went 10 for 17 on his way to 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and five blocks, while Carter went 8 of 14 en route to 22 points and five boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which McGaffey has scored at least a third of Elma's points. Another player making a difference was Armani Phan, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points.

Hoquiam has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.6 points per game. As for Elma, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoquiam will host Aberdeen at 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Aberdeen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season. As for Elma, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montesano at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Elma has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
