Softball Preview: Steele Canyon Cougars vs. El Capitan Vaqueros

Steele Canyon has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the El Capitan Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Steele Canyon will be hoping to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

On Wednesday, Steele Canyon made easy work of Grossmont and carried off a 12-3 victory.

Marina Gonzalez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Gonzalez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. She hasn't dropped below three hits for three straight games.

In other batting news, Hailey Trujillo was incredible, going 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and a double. Lauren Becker was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, El Capitan has not done well against Valhalla recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. El Capitan had just enough and edged Valhalla out 6-5.

Alyssa Cole looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Alanna Christiaens was incredible, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ciara Bernardini, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Steele Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 18 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6-1 record this season. As for El Capitan, they now have a winning record of 12-11-4.
