Soccer Game Preview: Doral Academy vs. Stoneman Douglas

The Doral Academy Firebirds will head out on the road to face off against the Stoneman Douglas Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Doral Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over South Dade.

Meanwhile, Stoneman Douglas had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 goals) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They won by a goal and slipped past the Lancers 3-2. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Lancers are ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Aquiles Yibirin and Luis Delgado scored all three of Stoneman Douglas' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 16 goals.

Stoneman Douglas has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-2-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 28 goals over those ten games. As for Doral Academy, their win bumped their record up to 11-7-3.

Doral Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Stoneman Douglas when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Doral Academy since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
