Baseball Game Preview: Cloudland Highlanders vs. Unaka Rangers

Cloudland hasn't had much luck against Unaka recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Cloudland will take on Unaka at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

As a matter of fact, Cloudland put up the most points they have all season on Thursday. They put the hurt on Cedar View Christian with a sharp 14-4 win. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Highlanders' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Camden Peppers spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 16 Ks.

At the plate, Colin Davis was a standout: he scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Walker Gouge, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4.

Cloudland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Unaka came into Friday's match having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Tri-Cities Christian on Friday as Unaka made off with an 11-1 victory. The Rangers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14th.

Cloudland's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Unaka, their record now sits at 3-9.

Cloudland couldn't quite finish off Unaka when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can Cloudland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
