The Union County Panthers will face off against the North Cobb Christian Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Union County will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
It was a proper cat-fight when Union County duked it out with Gilmer on Thursday. The Panthers walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Bobcats.
Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Union County took both sets by at least ten points. The final score came out to 25-8, 25-15.
Union County found their leader in sophomore Samantha Combs, who had six digs and four aces.
Union County was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, North Cobb Christian came up short against Marist last Thursday and fell 2-0. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back matches.
The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Marist scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-20.
Despite the defeat, North Cobb Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ryan Chesser had ten digs and three assists.
North Cobb Christian's loss dropped their record down to 15-14. As for Union County, their win bumped their record up to 22-11.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Union County has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9 aces per game. However, it's not like North Cobb Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
