South Central took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against New Bern, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Falcons won by a run and slipped past the Bears 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Falcons have posted since March 25th.

Hailey Mickey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, South Central saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haven Roebuck, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another was Blaire Adee, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run.

South Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for New Bern, with the loss, they broke their six-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Central will head out to challenge Farmville Central at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Falcons will need to watch out since the Jaguars have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for New Bern, they will square off against D.H. Conley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
