Softball Recap: Pleasant Ridge Comes Up Short

Pleasant Ridge had lost five straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-8 to make it six. They lost 13-0 to the Onaga Buffaloes. Surprisingly, this marked the Rams' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

As for Onaga, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-3. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

For Onaga's part, Willow Hochstedler made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Hochstedler has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Addison DeChant and Annie Force did most of the damage at the plate: DeChant went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Force went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Abbie Ringel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Pleasant Ridge will square off against Atchison County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Rams are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Onaga, they will take on Doniphan West at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Buffaloes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
