Southwestern league recap: 5/14/12

In the ongoing battle for first place, Temecula Valley beat Vista Murrieta this week, 11-6 on Thursday. Temecula Valley is now in first place at 11-4 in Southwestern and 18-6 overall.

The Golden Bears (18-6, 11-4) are red-hot, having won eight straight games, the longest such streak in the league. Two of those wins came in the past week, including an 11-6 win over Vista Murrieta. Josh Luehmann's hot bat led the team this week, as he racked up two hits and three RBIs.

Great Oak's pitching staff dominated this week, allowing only five hits and three walks, both of which led the league. On the season, the Wolfpack have allowed just 136 hits, while striking out 153 batters. Angelo Lingos leads the Wolfpack with 40 strikeouts in 46 innings.

Great Oak's Brad Wegman led the league in strikeouts this week with five. With 27 strikeouts this year so far, he ranks ninth in the league.
