Ray faced Duncan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Bearcats blew past the Wildkats 40-14. The victory was nothing new for the Bearcats as they're now sitting on six straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ray to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jesse James, who threw for 172 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 47 yards and one score. James also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making five total tackles and defending four passes. Chase Chester was another key back, gaining 150 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ray was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 273 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive matchups.
Another reason for the win was Ray's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Samson Martinez refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself.
Ray's record now sits at 6-1. As for Duncan, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-4.
Coming up, Ray will welcome Superior at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 979 yards in their previous games. As for Duncan, they will head out to take on San Manuel at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildkats will be up against the Miners' rather soft defense (which has allowed 41.71 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
