The Kenesaw Blue Devils will head out on the road to take on the Elm Creek Buffaloes at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Kenesaw sitting on four straight victories and Elm Creek on five.
Kenesaw posted their biggest win yet this season on Saturday. They blew past Harvard 49-25. Kenesaw has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 20 points or more this season.
It was another big night for Blake Steer, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Lieron Suck was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Axtell typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Elm Creek proved too difficult a challenge. They strolled past the Wildcats with points to spare, taking the game 52-37.
Elm Creek can attribute much of their success to Drew Harbur, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Quin Oberg, who scored 20 points along with three steals. Oberg is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Nikk Brumels, who scored eight points.
The win got Kenesaw back to even at 5-5. As for Elm Creek, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Kenesaw have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Elm Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 26.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Kenesaw took a serious blow against Elm Creek in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 70-39. Can Kenesaw avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
