Softball Recap: Cousino Triumphs

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Cousino ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Novi Wildcats 13-12. Considering the Patriots' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Madison Blase spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Riley Gray was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Haley Neal was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Cousino pushed their record up to 15-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Novi, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cousino will take on Sterling Heights Stevenson at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Novi, they will square off against Walled Lake Western at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
