Softball Recap: Providence Takes a Loss

Providence blew Mayfield out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Mayfield got their revenge. The Pioneers fell just short of the Cubs by a score of 2-0. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cubs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Providence saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evangelina Aleman, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Aleman is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Delailah Lopez was another, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Providence's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Mayfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5-2 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Providence will take on rival Flintridge Prep at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Mayfield is set to face off against their familiar foe Chadwick at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
