Basketball Recap: Riverside Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Riverside faced off against Lexington on Friday. The Riverside Panthers took a 54-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lexington Tigers. The Panthers have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Riverside saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jack Cupples went 16 of 26 en route to 33 points and eight rebounds. The match was Cupples' ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Shelton, who posted seven points and six boards.

Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Lexington, they pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Riverside and Lake County will round out the year against one another at at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Lexington will take on Henry County in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Henry County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
