Basketball Recap: Johnson's Winning Streak Snapped at Six Games

Johnson dropped down to 13-3 on Saturday, ending the team's six-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Wagner Thunderbirds, falling 60-39. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while the Thunderbirds are ranked seventh).

Defeat or not, Johnson got some senior leadership from Jera Salters and Latisha Ornelas. Salters posted six points, while Ornelas earned 11 points. Ornelas is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Laughlin, who put up five points.

As for Wagner, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 17-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 69.6 points this season.

Wagner got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Elle Williams out in front who shot 50% from the field en route to 18 points and eight boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyzarriah Fox, who scored 16 points.

Johnson has already played their next game, a 61-39 win against East Central on the 8th. As for Wagner, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 73-16 victory against New Braunfels on the 9th.
