Basketball Recap: Chardon Takes a Loss

After flying high against Berkshire last Sunday, Chardon came back down to earth. The Chardon Hilltoppers came up short against the Riverside Beavers on Friday, falling 85-61. While losing is never fun, the Hilltoppers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 602nd, while the Beavers are ranked 216th).

Drew Brown continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Riverside, going 7 of 10 on his way to 19 points and six assists. Colin Joyce also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.

Chardon's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-8. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for Riverside, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Chardon will square off against Edgewood at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Chardon is facing Edgewood at the right time seeing as Edgewood is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Riverside, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 68-51 defeat against Brecksville-Broadview Heights on the 25th.
