Basketball Recap: Newfane Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Newfane entered their tilt with Barker on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came within four points of losing the streak, but they secured a 49-45 W against the Bulldogs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 64-59 back in January.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newfane to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kasey Wheat, who went 5-for-10 en route to 18 points. The contest was Wheat's fifth in a row with at least 16 points. Mac Capen was another key player, putting up 14 points and seven boards.

Newfane was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They are 6-1 when they've passed the ball that well.

Despite the loss, Barker had strong showings from Anthony Taliaferro, who shot 64% from the field on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds, and Jackson Prynn, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 15 points along with six boards and five assists. That was a full 42.2% of the Bulldogs' points, marking the fourth time in a row Taliaferro has posted more than a third of the team's points.

The win got Newfane back to even at 8-8. As for Barker, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newfane will take on Royalton-Hartland at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Barker, they will face off against Alexander at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
