Softball Recap: Patrick Henry Comes Up Short

Patrick Henry had lost eight straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 1-20 to make it nine. They came up short against the Pulaski County Cougars, falling 13-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-3 back in April.

As for Pulaski County, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. Considering they have won six matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Pulaski County's part, Sophia Hall was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those 12 strikeouts gave Hall a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Dobbins, who fired off two home runs and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Emma Nester was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Patrick Henry will venture away from home to take on Hidden Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Pulaski County, they are taking a road trip to challenge William Byrd at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
